Ok, just for a moment, lets assume the NFL is going to expand to Los Angeles. Forget the conjecture of politics or whatever, and just assume for a moment. Seeing as the NFL would not want to operate with an odd number of teams, where would one see as the likeliest for the 34th franchise?

Not Las Vegas. There is a reason why there is no MLB, NBA or NFL team operating from there. Thats because Vegas has a transient population and not a 'home' presence.
I think the only obvious location would be North Carolina (somewhere in the RTP Triangle area) because of the sports fanatics, administrative facilities and infrastructure, amazing opportunity and a wealth of talent from good schools and programs nearby.
And also, because football belongs in the East. Period.

L.A. is the next market to get not one team but 2 in the NFL. With the size of the TV market, it's number one on the owners list. A small market team, like Jacksonville, would be a prime candidate to move or sell. The owner payed $125 million franchise fee in 1994 and he could sell for 1 billion dollars now to someone in L.A.
Or if he moved the team from Jacksonville to L.A., he would have the revenue needed to compete in the future of the NFL. Even though they have a salary cap, he can't compete against teams like Washington and Philadelphia when it comes to matching long term signing bonuses to new players. He does not have that kind of cash available. The new collective bargaining agreement with the players, all revenue is shared, not just TV and ticket money like before.

I don't think Las Vegas will ever see an NFL team because of it's ties to gambling.

The fastest growing city in this nation is Las Vegas. When I say fastest, I mean FASTEST (by a tremendous amount). Money FLIES out there, so they would EASILY handle an NFL franchise. San Antonio is too poor, and there is the whole Baltimore/Washington fight that WV or VA would have to fight.

I agree with your use of the word, "assume." I'm fascinated how indifferent L.A. folks seem to be about the NFL. Losing to HOUSTON had to hurt...except it seems that it didn't to them.

Hope this helps!

It's going to be a California team. San Diego doesn't sell out much, and Oakland is always looking to go elsewhere.

I have always wondered why San Antonio doesn't have one. Not that I think it will now, its just that it is a HUGE city.

Virginia is a strong possibility.
