I am sure are alot of cheaper ones. my nephew got a barebones+ for $169, $300 later and now he has a mad gameing machine. That was a while ago and I went through a dell while his is still working strong.
is a 50/50 call, if you have the incentive, a little technical knowledge, and are not in a hurry, yes its fun. and more than likely less a LOT less $.

Yes, you can save a lot of money building your PC. However, you won't save very much money on low end PCs. Sites like http://www.newegg.com will give you an idea of how much you can save.

Not much to save in the UK.

But you do get the PC you want, not what the shops want to sell you.

You may learn a lot to and enjoy.

If you do not have an operating system handy to install...you will def not save any money! If you do, then you may if you are willing to not only do the work, but be patient if you make a mistake.

say you buy a computer from dell for £1000
you could build your own from scratch for about £700 without operating system and it would last allot longer as you would know how to fix it and you know good quality components were used
and you can get xp cheap of ebay or ebuyer
