Really interesting answer on the Romani holocaust. It is always disturbing when people focus solely onthe Jewish holocaust and forget that the Nazis killed many different classes of people they didnt like, not just jews.
Hard to believe that anyone would actually ask the question "what does WW II have to do with the holocaust?"... but better to ask than to be incredibly ignorant forever.

I agree with 1st answer regarding Jewish Holocaust, but I would like to supplement that Roma Holocaust started much earlier
1890 Conference organized in Germany on the Zigeunergeschmeiss ("Gypsy scum"). Military empowered to regulate movements of Gypsies.
1899 The Central Office for Fighting the Gypsy Nuisance is established, and documents begin to be collected on Romani history, and on the Gypsy population in Germany. The Bavarian police create a special "Gypsy Affairs Unit" in the same year.
1909 A policy conference on "The Gypsy Question" is held, and the recommendation made that all Gypsies be branded with easy identification.
1920 Karl Binding and Alfred Hoche, introduce the notion of "lives unworthy of life," suggesting that Gypsies should be sterilized and eliminated as a people. This notion, with the same name, is incorporated into Nazi race theory in 1933.
1922 (And throughout the 1920s): All Gypsies in German territories are to be photographed and fingerprinted.
1926 A July 16 law is directed at controlling the "Gypsy plague." This treatment is in direct violation of the terms of the Weimar Constitution.
1927 In Bavaria, special camps are built to incarcerate Gypsies. Eight thousand Gypsies are processed in this way.
...
1945 By the end of the war, between 70% and 80% of the Romani population had been annihilated by Nazis. No Roma were called to testify at the Nuremberg Trials, and no one came forth to testify on their behalf. No war crimes reparations have been paid to the Roma as a people.

The Holocaust occurred during WWII in Germany and surrounding countries conquered by Germany. It was Hitler's plan to exterminate all the Jews so he could create a pure Aryan race of superior whites.

There ARE monuments and memorials to them. they're in China and Russia. The U.S. in no way took an activity in coaching the full history of those international places with the aid of fact they later became our communist enemies. additionally, their deaths have been perceived greater as casualties of conflict than a one-sided genocide. The Nuremberg trials delivered the holocaust out into the spotlight with the aid of fact the Allies made their case to kill captured Nazi leaders for conflict crimes. maximum of united states of america of america did no longer even recognize with reference to the concentration camps till after the conflict became into over and the pains have been underway.

The Holocaust was the persecution, detainment, sometimes torture, and murdering of millions of Jews by the Nazis (Germany) during WWII. Hitler planned to take over the world, and get rid of everyone but the Arian race, which he thought was the 'perfect' race.
Extra Info:
Anti-semitism (A hatred for anyone semetic, arab, jew, etc.) can be seen as early as in Medieval texts and drawings from Germany during "Christian" Rome. You see, they believed Jews killed Jesus. So, once Christianity was accepted throughout Rome, they had no need to fight the Pagans, and turned their attention to Jews and heretics. (Muslims too) There are documented cases of Jews standing trial for supposedly having killed christian babies for sacrifice. There are illustrations in Medeival texts of Jews having a tail and big hook noses, and being compared to monsters.
Hitler perverted his anti-semitism to an absolute point of killing all the Jews, and semites, anyone not Ideal for his perfect country (which would eventually be the world)
After WWI, Germany was left a mess. It was during the Depression, which could be felt world wide. The German People needed a scape-goat for their problems in order to help them regain a sense of "nationalität" nationality. Being a Christian Nation, already holding some instance of Anti-semitism in the past, Jews were an easy target.
The Jews were first segregated and looked down upon, the Nazis used propaganda to support their veiws. Then they were gathered into ghettos, poor areas of town, then, eventually, shipped off to a work camp, separated from their family, used for experiments, worked on products for the Nazi( one case of them working on making watches) and killed. Experiences were different, depending on where you went, but all bad.
But it wasn't only Jews. Polish people, Germans who helped Jews, Anyone Semetic.
