In particular, I'm looking for outdoor/daytime activities... but all suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

If you like hiking there are trails galore here. This is the perfect time of year for walking out of doors in the valley. Some down in Phoenix are Camelback Mountain and Squaw Peak (not yet renamed Piestowa Peak). Glendale has the Hegpeth Hills of volcanic rocks. Out in the far west about 45 minutes from downtown Phoenix are the White Tank Mountains. There are so many more I cannot start to mention them all.

Now all you have to do is decide if you want public walks in town or get out of town for a really quiet experience. Have fun, what ever you decide to do.

Tour the Botanical Gardens, visit Taliesin West, the home that Frank Lloyd Wright and his family and students lived for half of every year (the Fall/Winter half), go golfing, visit the Scottsdale Museum of Modern Art (especially the outdoor gardens with sculptures and ponds) and the Old Town of Scottsdale, have a drink or coffee at the Royal Palms and sit out on the patio.

Take a tour of Wrigley Mansion and have brunch there.

My father enjoyed rattlesnake hunting, sailing at the lakes, camping near Bootlegger and Slide Rock, near Sedona, he could go on and on. Collect mistletoe. But rattlesnake hunting out in the desert was his thing. Just make sure you know what you are doing. He also just told me for you to go to Jerome, an artist community that sits/slides on the side of the mt. You can't miss visiting Tombstone-good food-authentic, Bisby. Rawhide just north of Scottsdale. You can have your pictures done, etc--great for family. They do serve alcohol at these places.

Saguaro National Monument is around there, I believe. Great towering cactuses abound, so watch where you sit!

I would also imagine you'd score on almost any Tex-Mex kind of restaurant for authentic cuisine.
