I don't think there is an easy yes or no for that one.
I am mostly the same person, but here I do not have to actually look at people so I do not have to worry about smiling, or not burping or farting. I suppose I have a bit more confidence, but I am pretty confident in real life so I am not really sure if it is all that different.
I would think most people are the same or similar. I mean, you have to define "the real you" after all, every part of a person is PART of the 'real you' and so even in "real life' I, as well as most other people, are different with some people than I am with others. For instance, around undergrads (people I am in classes and otherwise) I am a different person than I am around my grad student friends (who are still younger than me but in a similar place emotionally etc...), although there is little or no difference between the way I am with my grad student friends versus how I am, socially, with professors. This for me is more about age than about social or educational status. And that is not to say that those are 'rules' per se, I do have undergrad friends, just not many, we are in totally different palces in our lives even though we may be in the same 'grade.'
Anyway, I guess the short answer, is yes, I am generally he same person in "real life" as I am "here" just perhaps a little more comfortable here.

I am exactly the person I represent myself to be here. I have knowledge on a variety of subjects and strong opinions. I offer both freely in real life and the on line world. I suspect that many use the anonymous nature of the Internet to become something else, or say things they would never say out loud in public. From my standpoint, I am very happy with who I am as a person and do not need to create a fantasy for myself. The primary reason I use Yahoo Answers is as an outlet and also to pass time at work between assignments.

I have a different name, but I would say the same things to you in person, or on here. I leave the "dark corners" of my mind for God to deal with. But whether here or in real life, I would not want to say anything that isn't part of my true character, or that was unworthy of being heard. I think it is valuable to be able to express and share ideas with others- I think I do it better in writing, though, as I get distracted by things like someone's tie, or outside noises, or static on a phone line.

I am the same me here, but I can see why people like taking on a different personality, mainly in role-playing games? I would think that if tried to be someone different for too long, you would eventually just revert back into being the real "you".
Unless your alter-ego is the "you" that you want to be (if only for a while) but are too afraid / polite / respectful to be in real life. Here, the truly foul people get banned, but they can come back and try again. If you acted that nasty in real life, the consequences would be more severe.

(Your grammar and spelling are just fine. Always go back and look at the "Grammar Police's" past answers. They can spell, but they never have anything of import to write about.) Alter-egos? I look exactly like my avatar, but, she's much mouthier than I am in real life. In real life I start to stammer as soon as anyone looks at me. This experience here is helping my shyness in real life, though.

I naturally think too much(compared to others it seems), so i always think like i do on here, i just tend to hide it from others more. I do admit i'm different around different people, but for the most part, I always have the same basic me all around.

I would say that my on line self is like me on Sodium Pentothal (truth serum). Since the people I communicate with on here don't know who I am and can't affect my life, I have no reason to tell anything but the absolute truth. It feels good.

Yes, I say things on here to people that I would never say to people face to face. In Y/A I let it all come out.
