I am not offended by someone saying "Merry Christmas" to me. I know it is meant to be friendly and cheerful. I do get offended when they try to force me to say it back or get angry when I only say "Happy Holidays" (I work in retail and yes this has actually happened). We all have a right to express ourselves in the way we each see fit.

I often wondered that too especially because I worked as a Hostess at a Restaurant for so many years. When I was greeting people hello or goodbye I would say "Happy Holidays" rather than merry christmas just to be on the safe side. I hope that didn't offend people too. Gosh maybe I should of just say goodbye or hello instead. I'm a fool!

I am an atheist and NO, I do not become offended because Christmas as celebrated by the christians was stolen from the Pagans .... and them I respect. All christian traditions were at one time Pagan or from a different religion, it's just that most don't know this. Caroling, putting wreaths on the door, trees, 12 days "of christmas" and others were ALL stolen from the Pagans. Same thing with easter, the bunny represents fertility or as the Pagan God Phallic .... how ironic, the bunny represents a giant penis or screwing. Happy egg hunting out there kiddies!! be well

I am not offended because I know its just their way of wishing me a happiness during the holiday season. I am happy when someone wishes me a Merry Christmas. I'm not a Christian but I do celebrate the holiday anyway. My family is Christian and also there are children in the house who enjoy the decorations and the gifts.

i does not be offended both way. no matter if i does not celebrate Christmas (I do) i does not be offended if someone reported Merry Christmas to me. also, i recognize quite a few people the position I artwork who do not celebrate Christmas, yet does not be offended if someone reported Merry Christmas to them. Edit: honestly, now that i'm questioning about it, Merry Christmas extremely purely covers sometime. satisfied vacation trips might want to cover all similar vacation trips that people celebrate this time of three hundred and sixty 5 days.

Ha! This is a nation of the offended lol, so good luck in putting it to rest.!
As a nonbeliever, I am not offended by whatever greeting given with good intention. I *might* be offended by, say, "Up yours!", but then again....
I find Christians, in particular, seem more offended by a generic holiday greeting than atheists do by "Merry Christmas" Probably due to the proprietary use of the holiday by their Christ, when the holiday is actually pagan in origin.
So wish upon me whatever greeting you like. I, in turn, wish you peace, happiness, and a "Happy Solstice!"

No, just as long as they respect that i dont celebrate the way they do. Not a none believer just not a consumer of high end goods that Christians seem to have to fill their living rooms every christmas to impress there friends and family. I simply say thank you and go on my merry way with cash in pocket.

I don't really care myself, but I know Jews who are offended by the ASSUMPTION that everyone is a Christian. I just find that annoying, not particularly offensive.
