sweety...I don't know how old you are, but this is a topic not suitable to be answered by someone off the internet. No one on here has the room or the time to post every thing you need to be informed about. You should speak with an older female you feel comfortable with, a sistser, cousin, mom, grandma, or a school couselor. My guess is you are about 8-10 and its a normal time to hear about it, and begin to get curious about the birds and the bees. This is a personal topic you will have a lot of questions over, and you need to speak with someone who can sit down and explain it a little more gentler than some of the nut jobs online. Aside from that, those of you who have posted rude obnoxious remarks about grammar and punctuation, you are immoral incompetants who don't deserve to be here. This is a childs mind you're screwing with. On top of that, she is extremely confused already and needs to seek advice from an older female who can answer her questions. Not be ridiculed for her curiosity.

Each month the uterus prepares itself for pregnancy. the lining of the uterus(blood and tissue) build up and become thicker to feed and nourish a fertilized egg - if it implants itself. If an egg is not fertilized and implanted(to grow into a baby), then the uterus sheds the lining and it is released from the body during menstrual cycles(periods).

Every 28 days or so a woman goes through a menstrual cycle. The fallopian tube releases an egg and if it doesn't get fertilized then you have your period.

Women ovulate every 28 days and when the egg is not fertilized then they shed the lining of their uterus but if the egg is fertilized the lining stays to provide nutrients for the unborn baby.

They are punctuation marks that most commonly appear at the end of sentences.
There are other instances in which they may be used such as in denoting the date: 02.12.06 for example.
