My husband and I are going away on a cruise to Puerto Rico. I have been looking forward to this for many many years and cannot wait to go. The only problem is my 5 year old daughter. I cannot take a child on a cruise.
My cat agreed to watch the child for us while we are away on our trip and has even offered to drive her to and from school on a daily basis.
The only problem is that i'm not sure if the cat is ready to handle this kind of responsibility. I mean what if something happens at school that needs my attention or what if my cat decides to throw another one of his wild parties with his wild neighborhood cat friends??
I really want to go on my cruise but i'm not sure if I should. Would you go if you were in my shoes?

That is so nice of him to offer! Aren't cats great? Before you decide, let him babysit for a night or two while you and your husband go out for the night and let him drive her to school for a few days just to see if he can handle it. If it doesn't look like he can, just ask the Griffins if you can borrow Brian. I know he's a dog but look at how great he is with Stewie and Stewie's just a toddler.

BTW - I love how many people took your question seriously.

I think that if your cat came to you and offered then he/she is ready. I would set some limits about the partying. I know my cat had a pretty serious marijuana habit for a while. We went out of town for a week once and when we got back she had these dreadlocks and a rasta hat and was listening to Bob Marley all the time. I'd tell him/her that the marijuana smoking should be kept to a minimum. Ask a neighbor to keep an ear out for the parties and call the cat cops if it gets out of hand.
Cats are great with 5 year olds. Just trim the claws down a bit and your good to go. Have fun on your cruise!

If this is not a joke, and you are going on this cruise be prepared to GO TO JAIL.
You will have a fine life there and well-deserved.
I am sorry to say this does happen quite often. Little children are being left at home, alone, while there parents are out of town or partying. Usually it is a 7-14 year old, left to take care of the baby and 3 year old. They are too young.
And the law says you can not leave a child under 13 home alone at all. Not while working, not while partying, and not while out of town.
Do you know how easy it is to get reported? Could be a neighbor , could be the child calls 911 with a question, could be they get hurt and need help, could be they call a family member, could be they stroll away from home and someone stops them to inquire.
YOU WILL GO TO JAIL (neglect is only one of the charges they will slap in your face). And if this is supposed to be funny go play computer games and leave Yahoo Answers to the grown-ups.

GO ON THE CRUISE! Just leave your cat a list of instructions and emergency numbers. Tell your cat that your neighbours and animal control will be checking up on him to make sure no parties are happening. Your daughter will be fine, make sure to leave a huge bowl of water and crunchie food, on the floor. (your cat will appreciate this as well) Leave some small baggies so your daughter can take some crunchies to school for lunch. Have fun on your trip! And don't worry!

That depends on what type of cat it is, you didn't bother to say. Persian cats are very self-centered and would not pay attention to your daughter. Black cats are wild and party way too much. Your only option is to hire a human babysitter or a nice reliable gray tabby. Please make this decision carefully.

I think you have a problem, it's one of two things. First, you're nuts and you need to hire your cat as your psychiatrist, or you just love all the attention your getting from all of these people including me!!! I pick #1.

Not really, I think you enjoy the attention!! Get a life!

The solution is so simple, I cannot believe you didn't think of it. Cut up the child and the cat and place them into a bag. When you are on the boat, go into your room and assemble them together. Kids love being cut up! They're joyful shrieks and giggles as you slice the bottom of their feet is joyous to ears all around the globe.

Depends...what's the cat going to charge you per hour for babysitting?

This is not even funny. It demonstrates a total lack of intelligence that is quite alarming. Perhaps you should be tested. There must be a home for you somewhere where they can watch you 24/7 for you obviously cannot be responsible for yourself.

No! Are you stupid or something? Get a family friend or qualified babysitter. By the way cats do not talk!
