I had the exact same problem on my laptop a couple of years ago. The problem was a bad RAM chip. I believe that as you use the computer, it uses more and more of the RAM, when it hits the bad sector it causes an error and shuts down.

If your computer has more than one RAM chip, pull out one of the chips and use the computer long enough to see if the same thing happens. Repeat the process with each chip in turn. If the problem does not occur when one of the chips is removed, you know that that chip is the bad one. Replace it or use the computer without it. (If you only have one chip, you may have to just take a chance and buy a replacement chip).

Internet Explorer freezes, shuts down without warning, or the computer reboots.

This problem is often caused by out-of-date video drivers. Go to the Web site run by the manufacturer of your video card and download, then install, the latest (non-beta) drivers for your video card.

Alternatively, you can try the following:

1.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2.
On the left side click the option to Display Classic View, Click the Display Icon, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.

3.
Click the Performance or Troubleshooting tab (depending on your operating system), and then reduce hardware acceleration a notch at a time until your system stabilizes.

The files for the program you are trying to run have become corrupt. You also might have registry problems. Or your hard drive is about to crash. I suggest backing up your valuable files now before its too late. Run a registry cleaner program. Then re-load the program that is causing the computer to crash and re-boot.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
