Wow! That Scott guy is a real jerk! Don't listen to him!!!
I have never been to Abilene, but I have been to Dallas, TX. I assume the climate and terrain of Abilene is pretty similar to Dallas which was pretty flat with a few hills and not alot of tall trees. In fact there appeared to be alot less trees there in general than I am used to here in North Carolina/South Carolina border area. I went in January, when the weather was nice and cool and very dry. I hear the summers are misreably hot, over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. We only get a few days like that here. Here is a link where you can read a little more about the city of Abilene:

I hear it has a history based on cattle and oil. I think you will experience the real spirit of Texas there. I hope you have a fun time!!

A very slight chance that it will be cold, but it does happen in the winter. Texas is flat and arid. Lots of jack rabbits and very few trees. Probably a lot of ranching in that area - cowboy hats and pick-up trucks.

Be prepared for it to be in the 60's to 70's,so pack for warm weather with a light jacket. Plenty of good, cheap places to shop and eat. Plenty to do and see-so pack those comfy walking shoes!

In all honesty, i've been through Texas, and there is just a lot of nothing there! Very right-wing too in general. Little scary.
