what are underscores on the computer?

Somebody sent me there yahoo id on a dating site but i'm not a member so it's disguised and he said instead of spaces use underscores. What does this mean?

most of the sites does not supports username with spaces and underscores. So u cannot use those in ur username
if ur name is john samuel, use it as johnsamuel. remove the spaces and underscores from username, it works
