I honestly wouldn't even try giving him any formula. Did the doctor tell you that he wasn't getting enough calories and needed to gain weight or did you jump to that conclusion? I breastfed both of my kids. I breastfed my daughter til she was 11 months old and my son til he was 15 months old only because he wasn't ready to be weaned. I never gave them any formula at all. When they were both 1 years old I then tried them on regular milk. Your doctor should be telling you these things. I have seen babies that have formula and they got more allergies and sick from it. I wouldn't even try your child on it. That is just my opinion of course.

I would continue the breastfeeding for another month or two and then ask your doctor about trying your child on regular milk. Breast milk is totally different than formula. It has the right nutrients that your baby needs. I'm sure that is where the saying, "Mother's milk is best" comes from. Enjoy the bonding with your child as well during this time.

Your child will start to show signs when he is ready to quit nursing. If however he is starting to bite your nipple or seem less interested, I would gradually start weaning him off. The key is gradually. I would of course talk with your doctor and ask about it too.

Sounds like you need to cut back on the solids and breastfeed more! Breastmilk has a lot more calories than the small amounts of solid food a baby will eat. Nurse before giving solids and make sure he gets to nurse on one side for a whole feeding to insure he is getting the fatty hindmilk.

Formula is very unpleasant tasting, of course baby wants the milk hes used to ans supposed to have.

if you absolutely must give him formula because you cannot pump at work, then try it in a sippy cup.

have you ever tried formula yet? or better yet Does he take to a bottle in any respect? At 8 months he could be on toddler nutrients now so in case you turn to formula and he's not taking in as a lot as he replaced into the breast milk at the start then don't be irritating he gained't bypass hungry. yet he does want his beverages. i ended breast feeding chilly turkey. My daughter did not take to the bottle at the start yet even as she were given thristy or hungry adequate she gave in. i'd also attempt diverse sorts of bottle and sippy cups till you imagine hes happy with it. you may finally end up switching up formula also.

I dont know if youve ever tried the two but the taste is different. Breast milk is sweeter. But in two months he can drink regular milk. Can you nurse a little longer? Or you can try pumping and making the baba 1/2 of each and gradually reduce the breast.

Smart kid, breast milk is way better and he prefers it. So as long as he is getting breast milk he will likely refuse formula. You have to stop breast feeding to get him to switch over. But at 10 months he doesn't really need formula. Just mix the formula with the baby ceral.

He does not need formula - ever. If you are producing enough breast milk, there's no need to give him formula. It's a common misconception. You can breastfeed to a year and beyond and NEVER need to give formula. If you need him to gain weight for some reason, try giving him solids that are high in fat (good fat, like avacado, etc.).

Just so you know... growth charts in most pediatrician offices are specifically calculated for bottle fed (formula fed) babies - NOT breastfed infants. You need to find the growth charts for breastfed infants and be sure the baby's doctor has it as well.

My kids went from breast milk to whole milk in a sippy cup at one year, at 10 months you might want to give it a try.
