Every Thanksgiving and Christmas it's the same crap. Arguments and tension start to build right around Halloween, the knots and churning in my stomache grow with each passing day as we get closer and closer. I just can't understand why you can't get passed your differences for one day. The bickering starts about whos coming or not coming, and the I don't want him/her in my house after what they said/did....I was brought up in a big family, the holidays were so special and we looked forwarto each of them, now it's like the biggest hassle in the world to ask for one peaceful dinner I just want to give up.. Does any one else go through this at holiday time???Would like some advice on how to avoid the whole thing (short of canceling).

i am so with you but part of mine i think is because i am kind of depressed and i have no cash.. but the holidays have become all about money you have to buy for this person or that one and if you decide to not buy for someone they get you a gift so you feel obligated ect and as for turkey day its just as bad i have it at my house and no one gets along and most of my family doesnt want to help they just show up eat and leave i hate the holidays i cant even make my self decorate anymore... and thats sad because i can remember as a child my favorite thing was to sit on the couch with the x-tree lit in the dark and just think about how calm and quiet and peacful it was... bla im turning into the scruge

I deplore the holidays because people just seem to stop living and start being in some alternate reality of dwarfs and fat men in suits....and let me not even start with the sudden urge in wanting to be charitable. It's sickening. These are the same people who'll yell at you in their cars and now they're doing this thing called giving. How I get through it is by working as per normal, if I have an off day, I'll make sure I have an early night and if there is too much going on with home plans I'd book a motel for a bit so no one can find me. If you keep this up year after year, the ones around you will get the message, as much as they may disagree with it, they'd have no choice but to accept it. Oh and I'd rent movies I've been wanting to see instead of watching tv so I don't get any reminders.

Get a "whatever" attitude. If this one or that one are arguing - whatever, "I'm not going if she is" - whatever! Don't get yourself worked up over petty stuff. In the end every one will be full of Turkey, and you will have heartburn!
