George S Halas. Long time owner, coach and part founder of the NFL.

After his death in 1981, I believe, as a tribute they had the GSH placed on the sleeves of their jerseys, and It has stuck to this day.

Actually, his family still ownes the team to this day. Chairwoman Virginia McCaffery is Mr Halas' granddaughter
