I say prudent. But I would take it a step farther and build a bomb shelter too. Nuclear war is around the corner. All the land, gold and guns in the world won't save you from that...

Unless you've got a considerable company of like minded people around you for mutual support you're doing notning but inviting trouble, and you'll get it. If civil order collapses there are countless numbers of people who will kill you for sex with your wife, let alone gold and any other valuables you may have stashed.
Best thing you can do is put up medicine, dried food, and ammunition. All of which will be worth more than gold. And keep your mouth shut about it!
You could no more protect yourself against large roving gangs of heavily armed thugs than from an army.
Better make yourself a better plan!

People did that during the "cold war" with Russia///
they built bomb shelter, bought land in the "hills" guns, invested in gold bullion to use as money. Nothing came of it but a lot of land owners with bomb shelters and the price of gold went up due to supply and demand.
You're not being paranoid.. it is scary, but don't write too much into it.
But, should nothing come of all that's happening and we somehow find peace... You will ..be in good shape.. LAND. GOLD..The guns won't help much./

Land is OK and guns but what will the gold be worth when our economy crashes. I think we are heading for one hell of a depression.

I wish we could go that far...we can only afford to buy generators, canned goods, and bullets for the one .38 that we own.
It's gonna be rough, my friend. How 'bout you tell me where you live and I'll bring me, my husband, and my two baby boys ages 4 and 1 to hang out at your house after the **** hits the fan?

Paranoid. But it's your money thanks for propping up the economy by buying all these supplies. Just don't go crazy and do some uni-bomber stuff. Remember, isolation tends to drive you even crazier. Good luck...
