A cotton "gin" is a machine which separated the cotton fibers from seeds, twigs and other stuff from the plant it grew on. This gin processed cotton faster. Before its invention, people had to sort through the blossoms of cotton with their fingers- slow process.
Machines enable people to produce more cotton, thus selling more..etc

THe cotton gin made it extremely easy and quick to remove the seeds from the raw cotton. Cheaper and faster production means more product.

Limitation on cotton production prior to the gin was ability to turn raw materials into cloth. Once production capacity was increased and price went down, demand went up. Growers grew more to keep up with demand.

it made the process of harvesting and processing cotton much simpler, because before the cotton had to be processed by hand (usually slave labor), so now it was a more streamlined process moving more towards mass production
