Ive seen on sites like DABS that you can enter your postcode into an input box and it outputs your street asking you to select your house number which completes your address details. where can i get such a database (for free?)

There aren't any free databases - Royal Mail charge hundreds of pounds a month for access to this information, unfortunately.
