I was always told that a good rule of thumb was to tip 15% when eating at a restaurant, some restaurants mandate a tip of more than that for larger parties. Of course, if service is poor, the tip should reflect that as well. In other instances like a pizza delivery or someone pumping gas, I usually give the person a dollar or so. I think in the end, the tip should reflect the service.

Tipping all depends on the situation.
I tip 1% if I get absolutley poor service. I used to tip them nothing at all, until I realized that waitresses will just assume you forgot to tip them. With 1% they should get the hint that I wasn't pleased.
Average service I give the standard 15%
Above average I give 20% (My drink had better have stayed full the entire meal)
I get my hair cut at Cost Cutters. Typically I get one of two gals. The haircut costs $13 and i give them a 20 and let them keep the $7. A meal comes and goes, but a bad haircut stays on your head for a while. From the good tipping, they remember me (by name) and I always get really good haircuts.

I always grew up knowing that tip is 10%. I think that it is a fair amount no matter how the service is. However, if the service is terrible tip low; if service is great tip high. But, remember not tipping is rude and improper. Imagine if you went to a resturant and didn't tip the waitress and then went back to the same resturant with the same waitress. Not a pretty picture.

I tip on service if it was fine I just double the tax. We had such good service on time that we tipped the waitress 20$ on a 40$ check. And once I did not tip because the freakin waitress yelled at my son to hurry up and order!!!!!

I think tips are nice because every one who works on tips needs them i always tip my hair dresser even if it's only a dollar(if I'm short). But how much I tip really counts on how much I have (for the month) that can be from 10-20%.
To hot mom; a dollar tip won't hurt anyone.......

No set amount. It depends on the service. Good service gets a good tip, bad service gets bad.
