I played it... It's pretty much one of the best games ever.
I developed several tactics while playing... it just depends on how long you want to be in each map. My first strategy is the fastest way to victory... Basically, you create a ton of villagers, and just start gathering resources... then you should only build the cheapest units, and send them towards the enemy as early as possible... overwhelming them with numbers rather than upgraded characters. When I go this rout, I don't waste any resources on building walls or upgrading my units... The downfall to this strategy is that your units are not very strong, and you need to keep creating them as fast as you can... if you run out of resources... you'll be defeated.
Another way to play is to barricade yourself inside a fortress while you gather all the resources to create and upgrade your army to the best it can be... wait behind your walls while the enemy attacks, and when their resources are exhausted... and then move in for the kill. This is a fun way to play, but it takes a lot of time.
These are really the only two ways I play... I am either overly aggressive throughout the whole game, or very passive while waiting for my chance to strike... both ways are acceptable styles of play, and because they are such different strategies... you can be entertained for hours.

me i have played this game loads. i love the phalanx. nothing quite like a super powerfull warrior that can take a crap load of dmg and dish it out to.
my best strategy i mostly cventer on defense. have a row of regular warriors maybe 5 then bring the next row of phalanx for the dmg and def. then a row of elephant archers. behind them regular archers. and most ppl dont think about it. but bring a villigaer. mostly for building stuff like barracks in the middle of the field in case you need to replenish troops quickly.

yea, its a good game
i like knights because they are powerful, but can escape quickly if necessary
no cheat codes, theyre bad
how do i win? i build up my army and go attack people lol
my favorite strategy is for when you have to protect a player, such as a king. i build a castle, and make them go in that castle, and then a build a wall around the castle. this way the enemy would have to get through 2 layers of protection, plus the castle shoots arrows out at them

I really like or liked age om empires sincerely I liked more the 2nd one than the 3rd one.The scenarios are more interesting.I liked archers very much too but i hate the priest because they die very easy.I usually do walls and then when the enemies come i atack whit archers.Well,I didnt use cheats because then I didnt had net.:D
