my desktop cd drive would pop out and pop in on its own. I tried restarting the computer and that did not help.

Get offline like disconnect your device from the information superhighway, wait some million or 2 hours and spot if it happens, if it does take place then your CD-ROM is undesirable. If no longer then you definately've a Trojan on your device and you choose an anti virus application to wipe it sparkling. And once I say disconnect from information superhighway im no longer asserting gett off the on the spot Chatting application im asserting take the Ethernet plug out of the back and wait.

Have you checked for a virus? I know a bad virus can actually shut your computer down.
