I lied because I was afraid of how he would react to the truth, and I knew that he would never understand the truth he would only see what he was predestined to believe about the things I lied about because of other issues in my past. I lied because I was afraid of losing him, so I lost him and I don't lie anymore no matter how dire the concequences of the turth. I espcially don't lie to myself either,

If you want honesty, you have to be someone that can be trusted with the truth. If we are going to get put down, condemned, misunderstood, hit, insulted, and rejected when we open up we wont' open up. If telling the truth means the other person is going to get mad, withdraw, be shocked, reject us, or demean us then it's easier just to live two lives - the one she'll want to see and accept, and the real one that she doesn't want to know about that would reveal our humanness and weaknesses.

sometimes there's a thin line between trying to Protect someone, and trying to Protect yourself.
sometimes i want to lie to my mom just so she doesn't give me crap about going out "far away". but as i get older, my respect for myself as a responsible adult, and for her (i don't want to have to lie to her!) causes me to WANT an honest relationship, even tho i know i will get in trouble by her. so, i think a lot of people lie so they "don't get in trouble", but if u are a strong, independent, confident person and try ur hardest to do what is Right, then whether or not u get in trouble, u will do what u need to do. :)

Small lies are necessary to keep a relationship moving smoothly. No one needs to know everything about everyone.

To protect my own interests. To spare their feelings from hurting them because of my desire to do as I want, or in other words, being selfish. To have my cake and eat it too. To get my way.
It sucks, I know. I've been doing TOO much lying lately.
Good question.

I think it's because of reactions. Like you wouldn't tell your spouse you blew $20 bucks on CD's if you knew they would blow up over it. However, if you knew they would react calmly, you would be much more open to say, "I spent $20 bucks on CD's, check em' out!"

Humans lie [most often] to conceal their true identities - which is an oversimplification, but accurate nonetheless. Your hubby watches porn, but can't tell you. You want to go out with the girls but can't tell him.
