The days of the old stylie critic are over - I recommend starting a blog. (I just read an article somewhere about this very thing - starting a blog is seriously the best way to go.(

Start a blog, start blogging about movies regularly, and start getting some advertising on your site to attract more traffic and to make some money off of it. You can have other high-traffic blog sites (I'm thinking of a lot of gossip ones like defamer.com but I'm sure that they have legitimate movie blogs that you can link from).

Start advertising the blog on myspace etc. to get it out there. Make postcards wherever you are and leave them out at coffee shops advertising your blog.

Either you will become an empire on your own (yea!) or some big company will pick you up as a critic for them. (Or you could completely fail?)

Good luck!

Read as much film theory as possible! Old and new conceptions. Remember a good critic understand were the film comes from what it trying to do and if it worked or failed or did both. It is not always about your opinion. Please refrain from always witting about the actors. While great acting can add to a film it is not always the case. Move past Hollywood, try and understand the medium top to bottom. And yes. start a blog. Approach small newspapers (local) and work from there. Be prepared to work for free.
