The burner icon is there,but not lit,like the rest of the icons,and nothing happens when i press it.

Try 'System Restore' - inbuilt into every computer, just type it into Search (on Start menu) to find out where it is on yours. Once you have it, it should present with with a choice of dates from where you like the computer 'restored' to it's previous settings. Choose one where you know the burner was working. Don't worry about using this function, it is completely reversable.

Do you mean that you took it out and put it somewhere or that it no longer appears in Device Manager?

try reinstalling the driver..
