I always knew the surroundings
would be different, more modern
and all. But I NEVER suspected

I read 1984.... in 1980.
Even when I read 2010 in the '80's it didn't seem that far away time-wise.
However, I do remember waiting and waiting and waiting (forever) to "party like it's 1999"

I often think of this question. When I was young, my mother would read me this book. She read it in a very soft voice. It made me want 1984 to come. And come it did. And it was good.
