Can anyone give me the history of "emos" and what exactly it means to be labled as an "emo"?

I guess I am not up on the lastest fashions, fads, or groups. Is this something new or has it been around for awhile?

emo comes from ''emotion''........its really just a high school trend that will soon fade away....plus no one over thirty is emo.....lol.....its more about being beautifully depressed...and looking for attention......i wish my lawn was emo so it would cut itself....

it means you get really emotional about things, and emos generally cry alot and are trying to fit in that certian group of people and try to be differnt from everyone else but in doing so they dont notice that they all become the same, the music they listen to generally is sad and depressing about how things in there life are going wrong and they want someone to feel sorry for them instead of solving the problems with there life

I thought "Emo" started as a type of music...you know, all the "emo"tional sappy stuff about relationships(boy loves girl, boy loses girl)...sung by the likes of Fall Out Boy, All-American Rejects, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, and the like....Suddenly, anyone who wears all black, has dyed black hair that hangs in their eyes, mopes around and wears lots of black eyeliner and nailpolish is considered "emo"...not so long ago, they were considered"gothic". Back in the 80's we referred to them as "Squids", but our hair was much more interesting and colorful!! LOL(mine was pink) :P

emo's are people who think they invented emotion. b-o-r-i-n-g. Oughtta call them "wallies" cause they like to wallow in it and make other people deal with their angst.

emo comes from emotion because of lack of emotional communication between parent and the child. basically kids who are emo are kids who didnt get enough hugs and kisses when they were young. lmao idk if its true i just made that shiet up.
