it may be you have a removable drive (mass storage device) attached to your USB port.. It may be a flash drive, external harddrive, etc...

try double-clicking it.. if there's window that comes out select the item and click Stop.

that should do it :?)

When you have a USB device plugged into your computer, that is the icon used for "stopping" the USB device.

The USB device could be a flash drive, usb hard drive, memory card reader, etc.

Left-click on it and choose "Safely remove USB...". As long as your computer isn't writing to it anymore, it should disconnect, and then you can remove your USB device.

Most USB devices are plug-and-play so if you just remove the USB device without stopping it, it should still be all right. Unless of course it is in the process of being written to. So it's best to stop the device first.

Then, once it is stopped, and you remove your USB device, the system tray icon should disappear.

Oh, and if your computer has a built-in memory card reader, the icon may not disappear at all because you aren't actually unplugging a USB device, so it will always be there.

it's part of windows and it normally appears when you plug a usb device into your computer. in this case it sounds like you've a memory stick plugged into your computer via the usb port?

the icon will disappear when you remove the memory stick, but as for removing it while the memory stick is plugged in? really it's meant to be there, you can't remove it permanently but you can add it to the 'hidden icons' area so it's not visible most of the time.

That simply tells you that you have USB devices plugged in. You cannot remove that icon unless you unplug the devices or "Safely Remove" them.

If it's in the right side (near the clock) then right click above the clock and select Properties and go to Customize and find the item in the list and click "Always Hide'
