you can connect a regular computer monitor to a port at the back of the laptop and use the laptop with the monitor.
there should only be one port the monitor can be plugged into, but anyways it looks something like this:

once the monitor is plugged in, if the image of your desktop doesn't appear on the monitor you may need to tell the laptop to use the monitor instead of it's own screen.
on *my* laptop, i do this by holding the blue 'fn' button and pressing 'f8' which has written in blue 'crt/lcd' - by using fn + f8 it toggles between an external monitor and the laptops screen.
if the keys are not fn + f8 on your laptop, have a flick through your manual or look over the keys to see what it will be.

Yes, if your lap top has a video out port you can hook up any monitor you like to it,
If however you want to use both computers at the same time and only one monitor, you would have to get a kvm switch (keyboard, video and mouse switch) this would allow you to use two computers one keyboard, mouse and monitor and switch between them.

Where there is a will there is a way, but I'd just plug the monitor into the laptop.

yes, but you might have to buy some kind of special cord to do that and I am not sure how much that might cost.
