I work as a cashier for a well-known supermarket chain here on Long Island. I got a new job in Manhattan which will pay me more. Problem is, my current job has me scheduled to work in the mornings, and I am scheduled to work next week at this job.

I was told that if I don't come in, that I will be fired and banned from ever working there forever. Ever since the new manager was hired, there have been problems. Some of the staff have complained about the way she runs the Front End.

I moved to Brooklyn for a month, and then asked to come back. I had got suspended because a customer stole $180.00 worth of groceries. I got blamed for it, even though I didn't do it.

She said that my life should be centered around my job, and that she won't let me quit. I wasn't expecting to get my new job. This all happened with in a period of 2 days.

They also cut my hours and I am barely surviving. I'm living from paycheck to paycheck right now.

What should I do?

At my job, the Front End Manager plays favorites. She has certain people thatshe favors. She has people working in customer service that have been there less than 6 months. I've been passed over constantly, and it frustrates me.

They want to hire me right away, and that's where the conflict comes in.

I'm afraid that if I give them as a reference to another job (I'm looking for a second one), they're going to say something that might cause me not got get hired.

Quit your job. Things there won't improve until that manager is gone or one of her higher-ups stops her behavior. Don't worry about never being able to work there again, because it doesn't sound like a good place to work!

Open some new doors up things can onky get better. Work is a part of your life so if your not happy at work where you spend half of your day you cant really be anjoying life..Take the new job girly. It seems that the front end manager is flexing her "cooperate muscles". Have you gone a step above her, to the store manager? I would like to believe that they would be able to figure something out, you have given them plenty of notice. They always seem to manage the situation when someone calls in sick at the last minute. You are being the responsible individual by letting them know you had to get a second job just to survive. Good luck!

well if this new job pays more. Give the old job notice for a week or whatever. Tell them that you have another oppertunity. and that garbage about if you quit don't come back. its all
psychological. There just saying that so you get scared of not having a job to fall back on so that you'll just stay there. By the sounds of it this grocery store is something that you can do without.
