Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. The only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not.
My husband and I tried for 1 year and had no luck..… We tried ovulation predictors , laying with pillows under me for 20 min. everything……the first month that I began using the book I realized that my timing was WRONG!. We got pregnant that very first month and I am now due Feb 2, 2007. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

PLEASE don't listen to these people with the 10-14 ovulation day thing.
Yes, your ovulation day may have been a bit later than you originally thought.
More than likely your ovulation was delayed-not your period. Stress can cause you to ovulate a little later than normal and subsequently causes your period to be a bit later. This is because there needs to be atleast 10-14 days after ovulation before your next period starts(called the luteal phase) in order to sustain a pregnancy and allow enough time for the egg to implant and start releasing hCG. Your luteal phase does not vary more than 1-2 days. It stays consistent so your period is delayed when your ovulation is delayed.
The best thing to do to help you learn about your cycle and when you ovulate is to chart your basal body tmeperature and learn the other fertility signs.
The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler is awesome and a must have for people trying to conceive. It is joked to be the TTC Bible. Good Luck!!

If your period was late then yes you ovulated later. So it probably isn't the day that you thought you would ovulate. The only way you are going to know when you are ovulating is to take Ovulation tests everyday until you get a positive. Start taking ovulation tests at about day 11 of your cycle until you get a positive. Then you need to bed that day and for good measure have sex the next day too for optimal chances of conceiving. Also another way to know you have ovulated is to take your basal body temperature everyday. It won't tell you you are about to ovulate but you will know once you did as your temperature will increase by .5 of a degree to 1 degree the day after ovulation. At least then you will know when it is!!! Good luck.

yeah .. you might have been late cause you were stressing a bit and hoping you might be preggers I am also 24 and been ttc for 9 months now.. the only way to tell when your ovulating would be to check your bbt and cervical fluids as it is a myth that we all ovulate on the 13 or 14th day of our cycles.. good luck

No, you should still expect to ovulate around day 14 or 15....it will only throw your ovulation date off roughly one day, and remember, sperm can live inside your body for up to 4-5 days! Good Luck!

Not everyone ovulates 12-15 days after cycle...Everyone is different. i personally used basal body temperature method. thermometers can be bought in most drugstores. this pinpoints exactly which day of your cycle you ovulate.
Every 2nd day to have sex is ideal. If you do it every day then the males sperm hasnt replenished fully and is not as strong for swimming.

It shouldn't cause a big problem and a mans sperm will live in you for 5-7 days so even if you are off a day or two the sperm is still alive and swimming. Good luck.

if you are TTC the method that I found because mine was ALL missed up as well. There was times I could have one twice a month. Try just having sex every 2 nights for the month or so and this way you KNOW for sure that you will hit the time! It worked for me! Hope it works for you as well.

I would pick up an over the counter fertility monitor or just have sex a lot 10-15 days from now.
