FOOTHILS OF THE MOUNTAINS IN MAINE... Snow storms in the winter however the last 2 years we have had alot of rain turning into ice. The last good snowstorm we had was about 2 winters ago when we got blasted with about 3 feet of snow. I don't think we even knew it was coming. We got up in the morning and the heater had stopped working because the snow had covered the exhaust pipe. I love the snow though. It makes everything look so pretty. I just don't like the cold...30 below and the wind whipping...BURRR. Summer we have minor flooding and latley alot of microbursts, which are similar to a tornado but not quite as powerful or so I have been told. and thats about it. I couldnt deal with a full blown hurricane, we usually get the tail end of them, lots of rain and sometimes just enough wind to knock down some trees and take out the power and such. We had an ice storm in '98 that was horrible. No power for weeks!

Hurricanes are terrible, but they are predictable. They don't just come out of nowhere, like tornadoes. The winds are less intense, but what makes it so unique is that there is incredible storm surge. Hurricanes are basically thunderstorms that form on land.
We get: tornadoes, floods, and snowstorms. Sometimes we'll get dust storms too.
Tornadoes hit smaller areas, but their wind speed doubles that of a hurricane. The path of a tornado is unpredictable, as is the damage it can cause. While a hurricane will tear the roof off a home, a tornado will make it unrecognizable.
Dust storms are terrible on the farm, as are floods. My grandfather had to watch his entire field wiped out by a hail storm.
I've been through 3 tornadoes, countless floods, countless snow storms, and15 dust storms--the most recent destroyed my father's tractor.
Honestly, there is no competition between storms. Each is hazardous in it's own. way.

tornadoes and ice storms. I hate ice storms, when it covers everything in a inch or more of ice, can't drive any where and the trees snap because of the weight. I had a tree on my house four years ago from one storm, the neighbour's huge, big tree. I'd rather it snow!
Don't worry much about tonadoes, we usually only get straight line winds, which are just as damaging. We sit on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River and tornadoes seem to go south or north of us. It's awesome to watch a wall cloud come in and watch the trees almost bend clear to the ground. Tornadoes are awesome to watch also.

We just moved from west texas so i am used to it... but dayum... talk about unexpected in November. I feel really bad for these people.

Water. I live in the Netherlands and that's below sealevel, and also the ending of a few big European rivers. With the climate changing our rivers have overflowed pretty heavy a few times last years and I wonder how long it will take before we get a lot of trouble with the sea. They have checked our dikes, and say that they are not in a good state.

We have tornadoes. I'm very scared of them. I don't like them at all. But I would think that they would be better than other natural disacters.
