Look in Control Panel. It's something to do with having a U.S. setting instead of a U.K. one, but I can't remember the details.

change the language setting back to English (united kingdom). by the sounds of it the keyboard setting has been set to English (united states)

I'm not sure where exactly, but in the task bar somewhere is the option to switch your keyboard from US to UK ... or vice versa.

go to control panel and click on region&languages options. under region options, Change the english US to English UK and then click on the language options and click details button and change the english US to english UK. It will surely solve it.
