As a tranny mechanic for 5 years, I would say approximately 2000- 2500 at the most. If its an automatic its more than likely a TH400. and even though its a corvette its still a quite common transmission. If its a standard it should be even cheaper still.
even @ 85 per hour plus parts , it should only cost around 2000
It takes an appoximately an hour give or take a 1/2 hour to drain the oil pan, dismantle the linkages and kickdown cable, removal of the drive shaft, lowering the exhaust to get the dust cover off of the torque converter so that you can get the three bolts inside.
removal of the cross member and tranny mounts, the filler tube and bell bolts....then give them aprroximately 4 hours to do the complete overhaul, thats clutches steals and seals.bands pump seals and as well as new filter and gaskets for the control valves
approximately 4hours overhaul 340.00
2-1/2 re and re 212.15
8 quarts of Oil 32.00
584.15
Complete Box Overhaul Kit...depends on manufacturer and what other parts are needed to be replaced. ie torque converter..tranny mounts yada yada yada
If its standard....just have it replaced...once the bearings start going in them. you will be constantly making appointments.
just my oppinion.
hope it helps.

it may not need a full tranny rebuild. it may still have manual gears or reverse. that means it had a part failure. but could damage other parts. call the dealer they will do the best job for the price. average trans overhaul is 1500. id try to contact the owner and see if it will move in any gear. try reverse and the manual 1st and 2nd gears. if so it will be a cheaper fix.

i own a repair shop, and i usually charge around 800 for everything on these cars ,and that's with a one year warranty also ,and that's replacing the torque converter with a new one ,and all new bands also, most shops don't put new bands just clutch packs but i warranty all of mine, and i usually do the first 100 miles of driving on the before i give them back to the customer, this way i know if its going to give any problems ,but i wouldn't pay over that amount, that's about an average Price, and just because its a vette don't mean it should cost more, its still a Chevy,,good luck,i hope this help,s.
