The ultrasound and actually feeling and hearing the fetus are the only accurate ways to determine a pregnancy accurately, this is what the doctors mostly rely on. These are regarded as the positive signs of pregnancy......other things like morning sickness are not regarded as diagnosing a pregnancy.

The ultrasound can be done as early as 4 1/2 weeks

The vaginal ultrasound can detect from 5 weeks, every woman is different so it really sometimes depends on the doctor and their experience, some may leave it longer to 6-8 weeks.

Huh? Topical? I have never heard that term regarding an ultrasound. Anyways! About 5-6 weeks a pregnancy can be detected through an ultrasound. It can be detected as early as 2 weeks via vaginal ultrasound. Both of my pregnancies had early ultrasounds for dating because my LMP was not accurate.

Not many Doctors will order an ultrasound that early on.
A vaginal ultrasound can be done. Most order for high risk around
the 6 - 8 week mark.

When I had my first ultrasound at 9 weeks, the midwife said my uterus was tilted and way below my pelvic bone, so I had to have an internal ultrasound performed.

typical? topical means applied to the skin.

Well, if you are really early on, they would do a vaginal ultra sound...so I don't know how accurate a topical would be. I'd say you would have to be about 3 months at least.

Where I live they wont even give you an untrasound until you are 16 weeks pregnant..I was kind of upset when I had to wait but they explained to me that it really wouldn't look like anything anyways...
