I was taking the Pill for a few years until I went to doctor (not my usual doctor), and he told me I should never take the Pill. My mum died of breast cancer and because of this he said the Pill would increase my chances of developing breast cancer. I was never advised of this previously or since, but I have stopped taking it. Was anyone else advised not to take the pill for this reason?

Not for that reason.
I was told that since my migraines were triggered by my cylce and "the pill" seemed to make ithem more frequent and worse that I should probably not take the pill. I needed to prevent pregnancy while my husban and I were out of work, so I took the pills for three weeks. I had two migrainess and my veins varicosed. They swelled up and turned purple. i could hardly walk. That was decades ago.
So I am now menapausal and tried estrogen therapy. Sure enough, varicose veins, heart palpitations, dizziness ...
So I am now just managing the hot flashes and stuff. I seem to be estrogen intolerant.
Sounds like your doctor is watching out for you. Use a daphram and spermacide. Get your partner to use condoms. It can be fun if you make it part of the sex gaming ....
My mother-in-law had breast cancer. She lost one and is on hormonal treatment for the rest of her life. She has to go get checked out every 6 months for 7 to 10 years.
"The Pill" isn't the only birth control method out there and isn't harmless to anyone. Read the material that comes with the pills. It isn't put in there because the pharmacies want you to read it. It is there so if and when a complication occurs the pharmacies and the doctors can say you knew the risks. The risks are real.

There was talk of this a few years ago in the press, but like most press scare stories it soon disappeared.

The only two reasons I know from friends that they can't take the pill is one was on anti-depressents, which apparently stop the pill working right, and the other has problems with water on the brain, and the medication and operations she's had mean the pill could kill her... :|

Yes, but not for that reason.

However, I know someone else who has been advised not to take HRT supplements for the same reason - oestrogen can exacerbate the onset of various kinds of cancer - so if you don't need to mess about with your hormones for medical reasons, steer well clear!

Having said that - there are lots of different kinds of Pill - possibly the 'mini-Pill' (Progesterone only) might be mroe suitable for you as there's no oestrogen in it - talk it over with your doctor and get a second opinion if you're concerned.

Yes Mem, I was told not to take it because after my first child i had a blood clot. I'm glad now at the age of 42 because I don't seem to suffer the same health problems as my sisters and I think it may be related.

All those hormones going into your body in an unnatural way can't be right.

I was advised to NEVER take the pill because :mother has had 1 major stroke, several TIAs(mini strokes), hypertension, and 4 heart attacks. Dad died from cancer. Cousin just died from cancer. Aunt almost died from cancer. I have just had a "cardiac incident". All of this puts me at risk for blood clots, heart attacks , stroke, God knows what else. If I were you I would discuss your concerns with your regular doctor. He knows your medical history and can advice you better than any of us here.

Its a movie reference to "The Matrix" in the movie the main the protagonist Neo had to "take the red pill" or the blue pill. the red one would wake him up into the real world, and the blue one would make it so that he could go back to sleep and never leave the Matrix. basically it means to see reality and make the chose to stop living in a lie. or to make the chose to snap out of it. hope this helps.

all medications have their side effects...be it long term or short term...if i were you i would listen to the doctor becos you dont want anything to increase ur chances of breast cancer so stop taking the pill...if u wanna keep having sex then use a condom...or get ur man to use a man-pill...yes it exists

dont risk your future girl in return for a little fun now...i was on the pill but stopped cos i started seeing changes in my body within a couple of months...so i d say stop if u dont feel right...it s not for everyone
