I don't think he was ever even considered for the part. If he was, and was going to be James Bond, it would have turned me off of James Bond forever. Tom Cruise is, and always has been a joke.

No, Tom Cruise wasn't James Bond, he was the main character in Mission:Impossible, a completely different action movie series.
James Bond has been played by 6 different people: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and now Daniel Craig.

How many times. James Bond is British. Ian Fleming wrote him that way, he can't suddenly become Tom Cruise/Eddie Murphy/Will Smith or any of the other Hollywood 'celebs' everyone bangs on about every time a new Bond is about to be announced.

You don't get out much do ya. Tom Cruise was off of Mission Impossible. Try Sean Connery as James Bond, retired then got Pierce Brosnan, retired and then got Ian Flemming the newest James Bond
