Wash it thourgaly in hot water a soap. It won't get aall the rubber smell of but will fade it.
Get a fluffy cover and put some essential oils on it which will turn the hot water bottle trat into an aromatherapy treat too and mask the smell.

Just put it inside two plastic shopping bags and tie up the bags, that will contain 98% of the rubber smell in the bags and you will smell of almost nothing of rubber again. I just found out and currently doing that.

Make a solution of hot water with several tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda. Leave overnight, and then rinse out thoroughly. That should solve the problem.

Don't think you can get rid of the smell - got one that's years old, and it still smells the same as when it was bought.

You can't get rid of the smell, so get brownie points by splashing out on an electric blanket (or just wrap it in a plastic carrier bag, if you're a cheapskate!)
Hope she gets well soon.

put some left over cooled off coffee in it and then dump it and rinse well, or immerse the bottle in the coffee, whichever way it should do.
