At work and school I've actually seen people complete tasks better when they're high. Sounds silly, I know, but I've seen it.

Definitely NOT. You must be high to even ask.

Well I can't say that it makes you smarter, however I've been smoking since high school, and my mom once asked me, (because I was a hellion throughout school) "once you got to highschool I stopped getting called into the principals office every day, what happened?" I simply told her I started smoking pot. I think that's one of the only reasons I made it through school, and I think that it did help me study more, and stay focused. And as you can see I don't have horrible grammer, so it hasn't made me stupid, However now that I'm outta highschool working a full time job, it seems it's taking a toll on my short term memory. I forget things a lot more than I used to. Other than that I don't feel normal without it. So I don't know if I agree, or disagree with your theory. Well that's just my point of view, take it or leave it......

It depends how you define 'smarter'. It can definately make you think in different ways, from different angles. So, yes I agree to some extend it could potentially make people 'smarter'. But at the same time, it probably hinders most peoples intelligence. Memory is an integral part of intelligence, and smoking weed definately causes problems with memory (er...been there, still am there. haha). Guess it depends on the individual :-)

It get your brain in gear I know, but as a cancer patient, it really eases the pain I deal with everyday and gives me a appetite when I am hungry and yet don't feel like eating... I just wish the USA legislators would leave it alone cause it is getting harder to obtain the herb and letting the prices sky rocket and making the growers richer...It used to be affordable and now especially in Alaska where it is legal to have marijuana in the privacy of your own home, is getting harder to get...especially for us cancer victims...

Marijuana never makes people smarter. It replaces a chemical in the brain that changes how your brain fires electronically.

What you probably are witnessing is people becoming more relaxed because of Marijuana and their performance level may increase. But...thats becuase they are reducing their stress...or helping themselves not care....not becuase of an increase in IQ or functionality.

No, I agree some people THINK they're smarter. I know, I've seen too many people de-motivated and turned into dull and sofa bound idiots to agree with you in any way.

no, it doesn't. what you are seeing is a psych effect. if a person listens to a song while studying, and then hears the same song while taking a test, thier recall is better. Same thing with smoking. it's a type of behavior modification

of course, if you are also high, you are more likely to think something someone else said while high is brilliant.

I can only think of my brother. Once when he had the munchies and he pulled into a shopping center and went into a store to get donuts. He thought the sign said "Spudnuts" which was a donut store. Instead, It turned out to be "Supercuts". He looked pretty smart asking for donuts in a hair salon.

No, it doesn't make someone smarter, but maybe those people you have seen have a attention deficit disorder and it calms them down so they can work. It is definitely calming and can be very helpful in stressful situations.

Try re-evaluating when the influence wears off!

More and more psychiatric research is linking marijuana with mental illness, particular bi-polar disorder.

Anyone who is prepared to give up full control of their body to any form of drug is surely at an immediate psychological disadvantage to start with!

They are not smarter. They may be more focused on the task at hand and that makes them appear smarter.
