Thomas Paine wrote the pamphlet "Common Sense" where he outlined the offenses of the British King and the reasons why we (the colonies) had to rebel against such authority. His pamphlet was very popular in the Colonies and had a great influence on the thinking of Americans who called themselves the Patriots.

Paine was a Philadelphia radical who was a major writer/publisher advocating a break from England. His writings were widely read and had a major influence on the Constitution's authors, as well as the military leaders of the revolution.
