George Washington took command of the Continental Army in 1776, and he worked and trained farmers and ragamuffins to be soldiers. His heroic winter at Valley Forge where his men froze and starved show the commitment he commanded fro his troops. He alone was the general who was responsible for the defeat of the British in the American Revolution. He was a great leader in war.
