Invasion of the Browser-Snatchers!!!?

Question

How do you set it so that when you click on an internet shortcut on the desktop that the existing open browsers you have open aren't taken over? I have a horrible time when I am trying to multi-manage several sites at once and I launch a needed websute from the desktop!

I prefer using browsers that support tabs (like Firefox), so I can have multiple sites open without having to launch a new instance.
