YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS A CHILD (I'M 61) THAT WAS THE CUSTOM
CHRISTMAS TREES WERE ALWAYS, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, PUT UP ON CHRISTMAS EVE AND TAKEN DOWN ON ''LITTLE CHRISTMAS'' JAN. 6TH....I STILL CARRY ON THAT TRADITION FOR MY GRANDCHILDREN.

What a lovely idea -- especially the note from Santa!
(To those who insist that Santa doesn't exist, I say, "Bah! Humbug!" The spirit of Christmas is sorely needed these days. And the magic of Santa is something every Christmas-celebrating child should be allowed to experience.)
Whatever you do, don't skip putting up a tree -- especially with a small child who's bound to hear about (and see) all the vestiges of the holiday and wonder why he/she missed out.
There are some countries and cultures who wait until Christmas Eve to decorate the tree (we have German friends who do that).
Several Christmases ago, our tree didn't get up until Dec. 24th and we made a special party of decorating it that evening.
In any case, don't wait until the last minute to get your tree! We did that one year and had to pay a fortune for the scrawniest, scraggliest tree I've ever seen (practically the last on the lot!). You can keep it wrapped up in that special netting they pack it in and hide it in your garage or basement until Christmas Eve.
Merry Christmas!

Christmas should be celebrated with family. It's really up to you to either continue old traditions or start new ones with yours.
As one of the posters pointed out kids love the gifts, but personally, it isn't Christmas without the tree. (you don't HAVE to get a real one either)
I don't think the little ones will mind too much when you put it up, you could even make an afternoon out of it with the whole family?
Hope this helps

That could work. It would be more for Santa to do while the little one is asleep though. One thing I did last year was I bought a Play Yard and put that around the tree. That way my little one could not get to it. Below is just one link to where you can get them. But you can find them on ebay and other places.

As long as your child isnt going to be disappointed i guess it would be ok to not have a tree. Children only care about the gifts anyway. I say put it up on christmas eve as a surprise just to be safe.

what's the point of putting a tree up at all? putting up a tree and decorating it should be a family affair. why don't you have your 3 year old help you? this instills family togetherness, memories, and you are creating something that could be a tradition. if you're worried your child will trash it after it's up then you are not instilling this child to take care of things a childs brain is like a sponge that is constantly learning. you must teach your child that some things are very delicate and you have to be careful, and once it's up you don't touch it until it's ready to come down with mommies help.

well i think if you do celebrate Christmas then a tree would be really nice. and as for when you put it up, well thats completely up to you. sounds quite nice though telling your child that santa is going to put it up.i like that.

We've waited until the 24th to put up the tree - no problem. Or, like this yr., we're not putting one up at all - won't be here.
