Should laws be brought in to deal with these criminal types?

Are the banks ripping you off with excessive charges?

Or is this is how the City rapes the poorer nations and how we live in luxury (well, the rich cats so)?

The banks are ripping people off with excessive charges, it happens everyday, one of my friends has worked at three top uk banks and always says that the bank never does anything to benefit the customer, its all just to benefit the bank.
My parents have had terrible experiences with their bank, they've taken direct debits out of their account earlier than the agreed dates so that they are charged for being overdrawn, then when they are overdrawn they have to pay extra charges because the bank sends out three letters (charged at £10 each) one to my mother, one to my father and one addressed to them both to tell them that they are overdrawn, even though they live at the same address, its ridiculous. They've done worse to them too but i know that its happening to nearly everyone from working class families. Its just a way of gettig the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Yes, the banks will rip you off all the time if given the opportunity. So will most other high street businesses.
We should all treat banks just as we do shops. If their prices are high find another one. If the service is poor then use another one. If I am unfairly charged by a bank and it often happens, I always write to them setting out my complaint. I also tell them that if I am not satisfied with their answer I will move from them within days. Every time, without exception, they have cancelled the charge and on two occasions they have given me a sweetener of £25 and £75. A good move is to find a another bank which has no charges and open second account. Any change that you then need to make can be very painless.
If all banks start to charge for services then this is when we are in the mire. We can ten lobby the dept of Fair Trading and claim that the banks ave colluded to up the prices. Yes, like Gordon Brown the banks need carefully watching.
