apply lotion all over your baby at least 4 times a day. if you can apply it at every diaper change. don't over bathe your baby. give them a bath once a week, or once every 3 days. Over bathing tends to cause dryness. And when you do bathe them, add some baby oil to the water so your baby can soak in it. And use a baby wash that is gentle on their skin. Or a wash specifically for dry skin. Doing all this should def. help.

If your baby battles with dry skin it it either caused by hormones (it will pass on its own in a few months) or your putting him in water for a bath too often, or using soaps too often, or the wrong kind of soap.
Or else he is dehydrated.

Babies who eat solids still need ample bottle or nursing time to make sure therye not dehydrating. Bathing should never be done on a nightly basis, especialy if your baby has dry skin. every 3-4 days is fine, with a warm wet cloth inbetween as needed. Dont use harsh soaps or baby shampoo on the skin. Soaps designed for dry baby skin, or sensitive baby skin are best, and are best used sparingly.

If youre having problems pin pointing the cause, explain your situation and all the possible causes you have identified, to your doctor.

Most doctors, and most studies have found that babies shouldnt need baby lotion. If the skin is dry there is a cause that needs to be found, although some good lotion (such as aveeno for babies, or eucerin) can help repair the damage caused by dry unpleasant skin.

provide plenty of hydration water is good for babies
use baby moisturizer daily
put a few drops of baby oil in the bath water or some cornstarch
use ivory soap or glycerin soap
use snowy detergent to wash the babys cloths and bed linens/blankets
use only cotton fabrics for clothes and bedding
keep the room at a comfortable temperature not too hot
do not use very warm water to bathe the baby
use cotton clothing it allows the skin to breathe
if the air in your house is very dry try using a cool mist vaporizer in the baby's room
do just about anything you do for your self to keep your skin from getting dried out

Remember to only bathe babies every other day to aviod over drying. Also, for severly dry skin, buy the Aveeno Baby products. They carry lotions and baby washes and work wonderful! Our daughter had horribly dry skin and we actually took her to a dermatoligist. That doctor recommended the Aveeno products and reminded us every other day is more than enough! If baby gets messy and also for the diapered area, use a warm washcloth and water (with VERY little soap) and just wipe done the areas. Good Luck!

baby oil is very good for their skin. just a few drops in the bath will do the trick.
my baby was having problems way before i could use oil in the bath (i think it is ok after 6 mths) so i used a different solution as no creams where working.
i basically used sudocreme (this is the skin cream for all skin complaints on babies to adults in the UK) and added a few drops on chamomile essential oil... well after a couple of days the dry patches where gone and haven't returned. she still has very sensitive skin though, and will react if touched by something it doesn't like, but dies down straight away. i'm sure you probably are... but just in case, make sure you are using hyperallergenic washing powder/liquid.

I use Johnsons Baby Lotion, or for really dry skin they have their new Naturals lotion (it's in a green bottle) both are really good.
You could also put a drop of baby oil in your little ones bath, it locks in the moisture, and don't rub dry, pat baby dry, this makes a huge difference.

use a baby oil either in baby's bath water or apply it to baby's skin straight after they have come out the bath, and pat their skin dry. also apply a baby lotion to skin during the day, you could give your baby a massage at the same time

it depends alot on whether your baby has any skin complaints that may cause problems. if it just dry skin then there is no harm in applying plenty of moisturising lotion on the skin after every bathtime. best get it checked with the doctor if you suspect a skin complaint though as applying things to sensitive skin can make problems worse.

Apply a lotion after a bath followed by a thin layer of baby oil. Make sure you apply either before taking the baby out, especially in this weather.
