my bb boy is 3&1/2 mths now...
have u encountered w/ur bb zzz lesser, nursing fussy & nursing less (usually 15-30min) now only 5mins & yet normal intervals of 3hrs... fussy nursing like sucking not focus kept breaking up & even tugging at nipple (which caused my nipple 2b bruised = clogged milk ducts = painful lump in breast)...
btw, do u suppliment formulars if BF exclusively? when do u intro solids to bb & what kinda foods?
PS: is it for real? boys develop slower? rate differ from girls? milestones of ur bb like when he started turning / crawling / eating / talking / walking?.....

Babies do get more efficient at nursing, so it *should* take less time for them to get all the milk they need. BUT, some babies like to keep sucking for the comfort of it, so your mileage may vary.
Around 4 or 5 months, my son became very distractable. If there was a noise, or the light went on or off, or my partner walked by while he was nursing, he'd pop right off and look around. UGH.
Sorry to hear about the clogged ducts. That sounds miserable. IMO, if your baby is tugging at the nipple but not actually eating (you can tell by watching below his ear to see if he's swallowing), you should quit nursing him, at least for a few minutes. If he's hungry, he'll come back more focused.
I had to supplement sometimes, usually 2-4 oz over the course of a day at day care. My son gets 3 bottles, 4 oz each, when I'm at work. I'd mix the formula/breastmilk 50/50 in 1 or 2 of the bottles. Luckily, I haven't had to do that in awhile.
WRT solid foods, most experts say you should wait until 6 months, and definitely no earlier than 4. KellyMom.com has a lot of good information about what to introduce and when. For the first year, babies still get the majority of their nutrition from either breastmilk or formula.

Someone just asked a similar ? about nursing behavior for her approx. 4mth old - you might be seeing the beg. of teething which can cause sore gums thus fussy nursing behavior.
You dont need to introduce solids to a bf baby until 6mths. Start with cooked, mashed carrots or peas, then cooked, mashed apple and pears. Introduce slowly one new food at a time - it's just for practice really for the first few mths. Talk to your Ped. about this.
No, it's not true that boys develop slower... my brother started walking at 9mths while I waited until 13mths. A friend's daughter started pulling up/sitting before my daughter, but my girl was always more 'advanced' using her hands, and other skills. All babies develop differently, just enjoy your baby.

He could be distracted. That often starts around 3-4 months. You could try nursing in a quiet room, dimming the lights, etc. to see if he will focus more.
Does he take any bottles? If so, maybe he is frustrated with not getting a quick reward at the breast? That could explain the tugging.
If your baby is having wet and dirty diapers and gaining weight well, there is no need to add formula. Your milk is perfect for him. Solids should not be introduced until around 6 months of age, per the American Academy of Pediatrics. They can't really digest it before then. And starting earlier puts baby at risk of allergies, diabetes and obesity.

Please write questions in normal language and not all those abbreviations so people can understand you. I'd love to answer you if I could read it.
