I dont know the seriousness in your question but for one, I hate the cold so plz dont suggest puttin the sun off and two, green house gases that TRAP HEAT causes global warming. Not the sun (and yeah yeah, the sun gives off heat, but so does machinary, body heat, lab exothermic reactions, weapons of mass destruction, fires etc)

Global warming occurs because of trapped Green house gases in the earths atmosphere (Like carbon di oxide and Carbon monoxide) and not because of Sun's heat :)
If we turn off the sun that would lead to another problem of ushering in the new ice age which would be very very bad for all of us !

If we were able to just turn off the Sun then you would die within 8 minutes. The temperature on Earth would plummet to minus 270 C and everything would die. Ther are better ways to stop Global Warming and one is to stop producing greenhouse gases.

We just need a big sun screen made of white cloth.
We should have a donation scheme set up and wheelie bin collections of discarded white clothing and fabrics. I have a few old pairs of almost white pants that could start the ball rolling

I hear the chinese are good at sewing so we could actually make good use of them instead of condeming them for causing all the fumes. Oh! fumes I forgot about them - we will have to put some vents in it .....lol

its not a silly a question as it initially sounds. there were talks of sending vast sails into space to a location between the earth and the sun. these sails would be used as a shield to reflect the suns energy before it reached the earth.

its a good idea, but that would not stop the underlying problem which is that we are heating up the earth

we cant create anywhere near the energy the sun generates with nuclear fusion so what chance have we got of being able to stop it!

plus if it were to stop, you would freeze solid in about 8 mins so we would all be gone...
