Putting something up is the least of their problems. They are worried about saving someones life not making sure a passerby doesn't see what's going on. If you don't like it don't look.
I was an EMT and trust me when you get there you are most worried about the patient and nothing else. The police are trying to maintain traffic and speak with witnesses and sometimes helping the get trapped people out. And the fire person's are trying to get any trapped person's out and helping with medical care. And don't let me get started if there are multiple people injured. We are all focused on the accident scene and nothing else. Would you want someone that was not focused working on you to save your life? I don't think so.

To be honest if the person is seriously injured the police cannot open the motorway unless they are sure the person is not going to die as a result of their injuries. The Road Death Investigation team must take photos of the vehicles in situ. The priority at any accident scene is getting any injured party out of the vehicle.
Would you have rather spent 6 hours in a traffic queue on the motorway with kids in your car, no toilet, no food, no drinks?
Yes, there could be screens but they are not cheap, as they have to be durable, they need to be manned to stop them falling over onto traffic passing or the trapped persons.
Maybe it will make people think twice about taking your car on unnecessary journey or speeding?
In that situation the emergency services have enough to worry about without thinking that a child may see it.
Sorry, that may seem tough, but we live in the real world and you cannot keep your children away from this forever.

I think that when there is a really bad wreck the police are more worried about helping the injured than they are about people driving by. Most professionals think if you are mature enough to have children they have enough sense to make sure that their children don't look. I have made a game of it when I don't want my children to see something. I tell them there are police and they need to duck down so the police won't know how many people are in the car.

yeah its horrible, my husband drives on the M25 everyday for miles and he has seen some nasty stuff, like one bloke in a lorry who was through the windscreen and laying on the bonnet well bits of him and loads more. It is horrible and he always feels bad when he sees it but I say look and learn this is how dangerous cars are and the roads are so be careful and drive safe, keeping your distance as it could be you, and pity the poor family of that person while they sit at home waiting for them to get back from work. Yes it is sad but unfortuantely the police can't always get there that quick so inevitably people do see these accidents, they do try and clear them as quickley as possible but think of the police when they have to do this and the fireman - your kids will have to learn the dangers of the road and sadly this happens all the time.

Maybe it could serve as a warning. We live in the real world, after all.
I was a tour bus driver doing an average of 2500 miles a week mostly on motorways (freeways). I saw it often. The worst accidents are caused by cars pulling out off the hard shoulder (verge) without speeding up enough first. Nothing you can do about it if someone does that in front of you.Take care.

chances are the main reason the traffics is moving is so that emergency services can actually get to the scene of the accident faster (if the road is gridlocked they can't get to the scene) the ambulance and fire crews can get thier the faster they can get the injured out of public view by putting them into the ambulance and off to holspital this is the polices prime concern if they are first to arrivee on the scene if the ambulance arrives first the injured willl be moved as quicly as posssible in to the ambulance - this isnt to keep them from peoples view but to actually treat thier injurys more effectively

The screen idea is good but I don't know how feasible it would be. How would you find a screen that would not topple over in wind? Then you have to worry about the screen toppling over on the injured person and the rescue people--further hindering the rescue.

Its a bit grim , but at the same time it's good for your children to see the result of poor driving, or realise the dangers of traffic when crossing the road.
Talk to them about it, stops them bottling feelings up in the future.

I totally agree with you on that one!! Nobody these days have any privacy at all....just a simple moving the firetruck in front of the scene would prevent anyone from nosing around. Also don't you just find the people who get in their car and drive around because they heard the sirens going off a little freaky??
