He has been there for about a week now and he has to go. I am not trying to kill him, but he has to get out of there before he causes any damage.

Put a live trap up their with some bait in it. You'll hear it when it gets caught in the trap then you can let it go outside and seal the hole that he came in .

That is a hard one. One time, we had a squirrel come down our chimney when we were out of town for Christmas. When we got home, a lamp was knocked over and there were droppings on our living room furniture. The next morning, my sister went upstairs to get my brothers baby bottle from his crib and the squirrel rolled out of the baby blanket. My father grabbed a fire place shovel and opened the door at the bottom of the stairs thinking the squirrel would run outside. It didn't. It ran in the utility room and stayed there for about two additional days. We tried everything to lure him out. We tried peanuts, cheese, and lots of other things. He finally came outside for the salami. If your attic has a window, you might want to try opening it. If not, then you might have to orchestrate a planned chase out of the attic. Make sure that the kids are someplace else or it will be a zoo!!! Best of luck to you.

You can get live animal traps, frequently from your cities animal control department. Put one in the attic with a tasty squirrel treat in it. When he walks in the door will close behind him. Be sure to check it often so the squirrel doesn't stay locked in there for too long. Some chopped up fruit makes a great tasty squirrel treat. Good luck with your squirrel, and not killing him is definetly the best choice!

if you look hard enough you can see tracks where the sq was entering. put the makings of a trap door there and prop it open as if you were trying to catch him. place at the other end of the gable vent opposing the entry point and get a smoke bomb similar to bug bombs placed in basements.
when the smoke gets to much for the varment, he'll run out along with his mates and trip the trap door closed at the other end and he won't b able to reenter.
this worked once for me when i had cats in the winter and again with a possom.
theyl're not killed and yu can fix the opening so nothing can enter.
remember, animals are smart too. they use their paws to pry open small air vents, spaces in the eaves and mostly if not attached properly, the small basement vents around the house and under the eaves. they like rats & mice can even crawl from the lower vents through the walls to the upper story and enter the attic.

Go up into the attic and act like a nut. The squirrel will come to you.

We had the same problem.

Here's what we did-
everyday for 5 solid minutes we turned on a very loud sound.
(we used the burgler alarm)
IMPORTANT! While the alarm was going off we waited outside to see where the squirel had gotten into the house. We then sealed that hole. We did this for 5 days in a row.
My dad ended up putting glue traps in the attic, but that will end up killing the squirel eventually.

Hope this helps.

set some peanuts out side and keep doing this for a long while that will keep it occupied while you go up to the attic and look for any open holes and then patch them and he will no longer feel the need to go into your attic if you leave a food source outside . also i feed the squirrels around my home so they do not feel the need to crawl into my attic and they are quite accomdating as long as i leave a food source outside. good luck and god bless and happy thanksgiving.

Hav-a-heart humane trap, and put some peanuts inside. And make sure you stuff up the hole he got into!
I had a squirrel in my attic for 2 days and he tore into my xmas stuff, peed all over books and ate wiring....!

Yes I can, that's how I met my friend, he hired me to patch the walls in his living room. He had a bat in the house and used a .410 shotgun to get rid of him, it left several holes in the walls. Better yet, maybe it wouldn't work in the attic. Sorry. This is no "story"

if you son't want to kill the squirrel then go to home Depot or lowes and buy a "have-a-heart" trap. this captures the animal with out hurting it. the oyou can pick up the cage with heavy gloves so it doesn't bite you throught the bars and relocate it to a better place
