My choice would definitely HP Pavillion (the dv1000 and dv 2000 series).

I have had Toshiba (cpu heats up in 8 months)
I have had Sony (too expensive for brand sake)
I have had Gateway (little cheapo on keyboard.. keys fall out in 5 months)
I had DELL (stay away !!! beware )

This is the 7th laptop I am using in last 3 years (my company provides me with all these gadgets) of which I had 2 HP pavillions. I have had no problems with them. light weight, looks slick-n-sexy, remote control,.. best ever ! )

Hope that helps.
happy surfing :)

I've always had great luck with Dell laptops. They vary in size and weight, speed, space, etc. It's nice as you can always customize one to fit your specific needs. I find pricing to be affordable and customer service to be very friendly and helpful. I buy Dell for both personal and business use and have no major complaints. You can often spec a model out online and then call to place the order and ask of any special promotions to save some extra money, which is always nice! Good luck!

I would suggest going with Toshiba. I have had both a dell desktop after two years it craped the bed and I went with a dell laptop. After two years of having that it craped the bed and I got this toshiba I am using now. I have had this for a few years now and it still works brand new. Everything is fast and its even light weight!
Hope that helps and good luck in your searchings!

A laptop is many different things to many different people.
It basically depends on what you want your laptop to do, meaning do you want to burn DVDs, make movies, play games, run your business, or simply go on line.
Hard drives range from 40 GB to 160 GB, and screen size ranges from 4" to about 17".
Laptops range from $350 to about $2,700, and there is a reason for that.
If you are planning on getting a laptop, carefully consider exactly why you are buying it, and exactly what you need, or want, it to do.
It would be wise for you to read up on each brand and model you are interested in, and compare features.

sony vaio if you can afford it, great for music, photos and videos, hp/compaq and toshiba are good for work, dell if you purchase the 3 or 4 year warranty, if not prepare to replace items - good for basic everyday uses such as internet, listening to music, doing a paper for school, and small office tasks. basically it comes down to budget, your personal opinion on style, features, and size, and what you plan to use it for.

any computer is only as good as its service contract and warranty.depending on what you want, always get the extended warranty and make sure you ask qestions about what you need to make it worth your while buying it. q's to ask-is it vista compatible-does it have xp home or pro(i suggest pro) ,how big is the cpu(laptops-atleast 1.6ghz desktop(atleast 3.2ghz),what type and how much ram is in there(ddr and better then 512mbps-)and atleast a 256mb's of video.

I like Toshiba because that's what I am using at home although I like MacBook Pro better but it is too expensive.

Dell...I am using mine right now. I have had it for three years and never had a problem with it. I also have a Dell Desktop and we have had few problems. When we call customer service they always resolve our problem.

That really depends on what you plan on doing.
For regular home use, an HP/IBM would be fine.

Laptops NOT to get:
Acer, Dell, or Gateway
