I have been looking into it for my son. He has cerebral palsy. I've heard that it helps the brain. I'm just wondering if there's anyone who has used this therapy and if it has worked of at least helped a little bit.

It's actually not an alternative medicine. Hyperbaric therapy is simply increasing the oxygen available to the body under a certain amount of pressure. I've heard it as effective for wound care and other ailments. It's also used for treating bends, when a diver returns to the surface too quickly.

There was a recent study of this theapy for children with CP, and the results were mixed, and some acrimony seems to exist between reviewers and researchers.

It's worth at least spending some time looking into.

Hyperbaric pxygen therapy is the process of forcing oxygen into the body by pressure. As noted in some of the answers already given there are side effects you may not want. Then again there is a way of getting oxygen into the blood without side effects of the nervous system. If you care to take a look at what Dr. William C. Douglass has to say there is a book called -Hydrogen Peroxide Medical Miracle-. The book is 184 easy reading pages and costs about $13.00. It can be ordered on E-Bay at half price books.com. Treatments are less than $100.00 .

There is another book I've found to realy help : The Holy Bible.
I'll pray for you and your son.

I used to be a respiratory therapist that was trained in hyperbaric medicine.

There are many uses for oxygen under pressure. From burn patients to various forms of infection, to healing of fractures. Oxygen toxicity is also a possible side effect and attacks the central nervous system.

The disease you mention is a central nervous system disorder as you know, so I would proceed with cation. That said, here is my advice; seek out a professional and an institution that has hyperbaric chambers.

The best with the longest running history would be Sherman Oaks Community Hospital, in Studio City California. Start with the respiratory therapy department as they run the program.

Though this is not an exact answer, I hope it sets you on the right path.

My daughter also has cp. We have also heard of this treatment. I have heard of poor results. I personally would recommend, biking, swimming, and Mozart. Mozart has been proven to help children cordinate their movements better. All classical music helps the brain develop. This too has also been proven over the years. Playing the music before bed is a good way of doing it. Also playing during the day is good too.

My sister who had no kidneys for 21 years and other problems as well needed surgeries to fix vascular problems but wouldnt heal. She was placed in the chamber and it was really suprising that it helped her open wounds start healing. I have no knowledge about it relating to CP but I will say a prayer for you and your son.

Yes, very familiar with it. A very useful therapy in facilitating the healing process. The explosion was very unfortunate, killed an event horse with EPM. Don't know why he was in the chamber without having had his shoes pulled off first. . . .
