As in muddled desk muddled mind. Tidy room tidy mind.

Or is it just a way for people to externalise their inner thoughts?

Or is it just a load of (i hope it lets me say this) BOLLOCKS?

It could just mean that like me the person is usually flying through the room on autopilot, busy with other things. Or that they haven't been taught to be tidy, which is a learned skill. You will find that kids whose parents are slobs, grow up to be untidy at least. Or they go the whole other way and turn into neat freaks.

YEP! inner peace through meditation , an intent to be that which you most desire will manifest in your life as you put energy towards it. Often there is so much going on it is difficult. Have patience with yourself/others and judge not anyone, mostly yourself. Because that which we do internally we are shown externally.Acceptance is the first step on a very long journey as we take baby steps. Perfection DOES NOT EXIST, CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENT DOES. EVEN GOD IS NOT PERFECT THIS IS WHY CHANGE IS A GOOD THING. Hmmm God/ Good just a note of interest. Notice not GOD/ FEAR. There are no coincidences or accidents in the world. Everything has meaning.

Well i share my office with two other ladies...one of them has her desk constantly spotless and the other is the total opposite...complete mess...and this one always says it reflects her mind!

However, in my case i switch between the two extremes and i do find that when my desk is tidy i seem to be more motivated and full of energy, and find the opposite to be true when there's so much paper everywhere!

I think most people are instinctively organized. Who likes looking for something they can't find? All these messy spaces you see are really the consequence of the scarcity of space! If you go into a professor's tiny office and see the books and papers everywhere, ask yourself where he/she would move that stuff even if they tried to organize? They could move a pile from that corner over to another corner, but is that any more organized than when he/she started?

With plenty of space, we would all be organized!

I think the way someone organises their space can effect their inner state either positively or negatively. I live in a horribly cluttered home and it's driving me mad

No. It reflects what the outside world can do a persons inner state.
